East & West Cheshire Finals

East & West Cheshire Finals

The first day, Sunday 19 September, saw the final of the Business Ladies teams with Hazel Grove’s team of Kara Powell, Fiona Gradege and Andrea Haynes beating Sandiway in an excellent contest, despite some accompanying noise from a rock concert taking place in fields nearby! Absolute concentration was the key to the day!

The next day had glorious weather to back up the splendid scenery and excellent course conditions to be enjoyed by the A, B and Plate teams. The A team County Shield was won by the team of Jane Pickup, Erin Gravett, Chris Westrup, Gill Hodges and Sybra Eardley from Astbury who beat Vale Royal Abbey.

Next up were the B team contenders from Alsager and Wallasey with some of the Alsager players fresh from winning the Alliance Archie Preston Trophy on the previous day at Bolton Old Links GC. Alsager’s team of Pam Neale, Debbie Maydew, Angela Shenton, Mary Hobson, Pat Leese, Viv Ibbotson and Cheryl Plant were still on form and managed to win the match.

The final match was for the Plate between Tytherington and Warrington and Warrington’s team of Jo Carter, Barbara Bradley, Julia Hesketh, Judith Brown, Rachel Bailey, Morag Hales and Penny Sadler, played well and had a convincing win.

Congratulations to all the teams who took part. They were all winners having fought through to the East v West Finals. We saw some wonderful golf and the matches were played in great spirit by all the competitors.

Thanks must go to the excellent staff at Romiley (the afternoon tea scones were to die for!) and the East and West officials for all of the hard work they had put in during a busy and demanding season to make this a special day for all. Volunteers are needed on both Committees so please think about joining them to keep these events running.
