HEATON Moor Golf Club’s new Lady Captain Julie Stonehouse is looking forward to a busy year in her role and she will be looking to continue the great work done in the past two years in attracting new ladies and girls into their friendly club.

Julie said: “I am looking to be a Lady Captain who wants to have lots of fun and a great social year as well as golf.

“Last year we took part in the ‘Girl’s Golf Rocks’ initiative which is run by England Golf and this attracted 19 girls to try golf for the first time and eight subsequently joined as juniors.

“We plan to do this initiative again this year.

“It is now about two years since our Beginners Academy was initiated.

“Although the Academy is not exclusively for women, it has now had 98 people go through its doors with two thirds of these going onto membership.

“The Academy has been fundamental in increasing our ladies section growing from 50 to 71 members since the start of the pandemic (a 40 per cent increase).

“Heaton Moor Golf Club has also signed up to the ‘Women in Golf’ charter, committing to a more inclusive culture in golf and has exceeded its aim of achieving at least 30 per cent female representation on its board.

“PGA professional David Cullen has played a big part in coaching new recruits and helping them to develop their games at all levels and he has done a great job and will be continuing this in the coming year.”
