The ladies group at Birchwood Golf Club, near Warrington

Birchwood Golf Club Ladies Captain, Denise Earlam

A CHESHIRE club is joining the drive to encourage more ladies to take up golf by hosting a special open day.

Birchwood Golf Club – which can be found in Kelvin Close – is running a free taster day on Monday, May 8.

The event takes place from 1pm-3pm and offers any ladies who are interested in taking up the sport the ideal opportunity to learn about what is involved.

Members of the ladies section at Birchwood, close to the M62 near Warrington, will be on hand alongside the club’s PGA professional Carl Edwards to provide free golf tuition, as well as a chance to visit the clubhouse for a drink and to chat to lady golfers to discover what the sport and the club has to offer

Follow-up coaching will also be available to newcomers to the sport who are interested in developing their skills with five-week blocks of lessons for beginners.

As part of Birchwood’s pathway into golf, six-week blocks of lessons will be available for improvers with a trial membership offer giving an insight into club life. Further offers will be revealed on the day for those wanting to take out full membership of the club.

Lady captain Denise Earlam says: “We are looking forward to welcoming ladies to our taster day and them becoming part of Birchwood Golf Club, learning the sometimes frustrating game of golf and enjoying making new friends and sharing in the social side of our club.”

Alison Lysons, Cheshire County Development Officer for England Golf, says: “It has been a pleasure to work with Lady captain Denise Earlam and the other ladies from the club to develop this new pathway for ladies wanting to take up the game of golf. Hopefully lots of ladies will take up the opportunity to visit the club on May 8 and see what Birchwood has to offer.”
