Gerry set to make History at Chorlton

GERRY Gee is a true legend at Chorlton Golf Club where she has been a successful, hard-working and dedicated member of her historic club for 37 years.

Now Gerry is set to make new history for the club, and possibly in Cheshire and the North West by becoming the first-ever lady to be their Captain for 2022.

Gerry, who was Lady Captain in 2002 and had a best playing handicap of 4.6, now a very respectable 13.8, has won plenty of club majors, served in a variety of committee roles and also won selection for Cheshire- her own personal golfing highlight.

She is  also a director of the club and at this moment in time the  Chairman of the Board.

Gerry said: “I am really honoured and delighted to be asked to be Captain in the coming year. I feel that it shows Chorlton is fully committed to being a completely integrated club.

“The support and comments from members since it has been announced has been incredible and really encouraging.

“As for being the first female in this position I feel proud, excited and a little nervous but I feel sure it won’t be long before other clubs follow Chorlton’s example.

“I just hope that the golf does not let me down!

“I’d love to promote the fact that Chorlton is the most friendly of clubs and makes everyone welcome and is also encouraging more juniors to take up golf as they are our future.

“One of the great things about Chorlton is the complete integration: male and female members are all on equal standing.

“My favourite course, other than Chorlton is Muirfield and as for my favourite hole at Chorlton – I love and hate them all at different times!

“I normally play three times a week and my other hobbies are exercise classes and supporting Manchester City and my chosen Captain’s charity is St Annes Hospice.

“Finally the people I would like to join me playing a round of golf are Ian Poulter (for his cheekiness and passion), Sergio Aguero (just because!), Maggie Smith (good fun and a very dry sense of humour) and Dave Screeton (he taught me to play golf) and I would caddy to enjoy the banter.

”Like everyone else in golf I am hoping that 2022 will get us all in the game back to normal and it will certainly be very exciting for me.”
