Cheshire stars just miss out at top MDLGA competition

A strong field of just under 70 players from across Lancashire, Cheshire and Great Manchester enjoyed a fine and challenging course at Pike Fold GC as they looked to win two top trophies.

The event was superbly organised by Pike Fold’s Gillian Dawson with help from the MDLGA committee and attended by MDLGA President Jill Rose (Ringway GC) to present the prizes..

The Lloyd Jones Scratch Trophy, which began in 1952, is a scratch competition and in 2024 Jane Burke (Sandiway) was the winner at Hazel Grove GC.

The Challenge Cup, founded in 1902, is a handicap competition and the 2024 winner was Jane Jolley (Worsley GC).

The Lloyd Jones Trophy was won by Andrea Holt (Bury GC) with 76 from Jane Burke 81 and her Sandiway colleague Cathy Day 83.

Winning the Challenge Cup was Linda Woods (Borlton Lostock GC) 68, closely followed by Christine Cavaney (Stand GC) 69 and Andrea Holt (Bury GC) 70.
