East Cheshire Ladies League Final – East ready to take on the West

Hundreds of lady golfers across East Cheshire have been playing in the East Cheshire Inter Club Shield leagues in four categories since March with their aim being to make the Finals Day.

It was held at Davenport Golf Club which provided an excellently conditioned and challenging course. This was backed by superb hospitality at their attractive clubhouse with great support throughout a long day by their staff and friendly members.

The finalists were looking to make it through with the winners going on to meet the West Cheshire Champions at Crewe GC and defend the three titles they won in 2024.

First up was the Business Ladies final with Alsager going through with a 2-1 win over Poulton Park taking place the day before the main competition.

In the A team competition, with five players per side, Prestbury took on Astbury and they won the first two games.

But Astbury were not to be denied as Chris Westrup and Sybra Eardley made it 2/2.

Cheshire Girls star Naomi Willans kept her nerve to win the deciding game on the 20th hole.

Next up was the B team competition, with seven players per side, between Prestbury and Stockport.

Prestbury Lady Captain Caroline Harrison-Croft got her team off to a flier with a 6/5 win.

Stockport came back strongly with wins from Penny Murison 3/2, Yvonne Watson 4/3, Sharon Hodgkiss 3/2 to put their team on the brink of victory which was confirmed by Denise Seddon to see Stockport enjoy a 5-2 score-line.

The final match was for the Plate title between Bramall Park and Congleton, also seven players per team.

Congleton won the first two matches through Alison Bond 2/1 and Janet Boughey 4/3.

Park drew level with wins for Sally Jones 3/2 and Gill Walker 3/2

Park made it 3-2 with a win for Deb Kershaw but Congleton levelled again through Di Snelson 3/1.

So it was all eyes on the course as Karen Pennington (Bramall Park) and Bet Evans (Congleton) were all square after 18 to go into a tense shoot-out.

It was still level after 19 holes before Karen kept her nerve to secure a 4/3 victory for Bramall Park.
