BBC staff try out golf at work
England Golf recently organised a golf taster session in the BBC offices at MediaCityUK, making it easy for employees to give golf a go.
The Get into golf taster session was part of England Golf’s workplace health and wellness programme. This offers taster events to businesses of all sizes to show how golf can help improve the health and wellbeing of their employees.
Golf is an ideal way to relax and keep active – helping to burn calories, stay healthy and spend time with friends and family.
The event was organised by England Golf along with the Cheshire and Lancashire golf development groups and supported by coaching from PGA professional Craig Fletcher from the Trafford Golf Centre.
The BBC event was also supported by indoor golf and entertainment centre The Green and Northenden Golf Club.
More than 50 staff tried the challenge and the day went so well that several are set to follow up the day with a five-week Get into golf beginner course for just £25 at a local golf club.
BBC Club organiser Lizzie Dignamsaid: “We had so much fun with the Get into golf team, who went above and beyond to make the event a success. Everyone that took part had a positive experience; the day created a real buzz around the building”.
Those who took part said…
“This is what sport is all about, bringing golf out to the people and showcasing what golf can offer.”
“It is brilliant that we can try a new sport in our work venue.”
“I didn’t think I would be able to play golf – but I have now signed up for a five weeks course and I can do it!”
England Golf takes taster sessions into the workplace – whether it is an office, school, hospital or industrial park. This allows easy access and shows just how flexible golf can be and how it can appeal to all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Nationally the Get into golf the campaign has teamed up with BBC Sport’s Get Inspired programme to encourage people to get active and find new activities in their local area.
The campaign, designed to inspire adults across England to take up golf, will work alongside Get Inspired to extend its reach to millions of BBC viewers, listeners and web users across the country
“We are delighted to work with Get Inspired. This will be a big boost to our campaign to encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to take up golf,” said Richard Flint, England Golf’s Participation & Club Support Director.
“With this increased awareness we are looking for more clubs to work with the Get into golf programme so that we can offer more opportunities across the country.”
