Ringway legend ready for new role at her beloved club

Marjorie Griffiths has been a member of Ringway Golf Club for over 30 years and she is delighted and proud to be their Lady Captain in 2022.

Marjorie has been a top player at her club and also with Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association where she also served in a variety of roles.

Marjorie, a retired school teacher, said: “I am very proud to be a member of Ringway Golf Club which has a challenging but fair course.

“It also welcomes players of all abilities and has progressed to provide a very inclusive calendar of golfing and social events.

My best handicap was 5 and is now 9.7 and my own golfing highlight was to win the Comboy Scratch Trophy at Delamere Forest GC.

“My favourite hole at Ringway in the fifth which has a challenging tee shot from all tees and the ‘bowl effect’ around the green makes it different to any other hole at the club.

“My favourite course, other than Ringway, is the Ailsa Course at Turnberry.

“I play golf four or five times a week in the summer and my other hobbies are walking, gardening, pilates, watching rugby union and supporting Manchester United – although I support both Manchester clubs except then they are playing each other!

“The charity I will be supporting this year is Melanoma Research. If I had to chose people to join me in a four-ball they would be my regular golfing friends for a relaxed round.

“Apart from Ringway I was invited to be a Cheshire selector in 2002 and in 2010 became County Captain,

“I then became the County England and Northern Counties golf representative and was the voting member for several years.

“Following that I was President of the Northern Counties for a couple of years.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it all -but particularly watching some very talented juniors progressing through the ranks and some going onto make a career out of it and some settling for playing at the top of amateur golf.”
