John takes the helm at inaugural AGM

The first-ever AGM of recently formed Cheshire Golf provided a great day at the splendid Sandiway Golf Club who, as always, provided great service and support on a very busy day.

Officials and club representatives

After a group picture was taken the assembly enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch before settling down for the AGM led by Cheshire Golf Chairman Cleveland McCurdy (Ringway GC).

It is the first AGM since the merger of the CCLGA and the CUGC and there was a full attendance of County officials, club representatives with plenty of ladies enjoying the AGM for the first time.

One of the most important votes passed was on the resolution- ‘That with effect from the conclusion of the meeting the draft articles of association produced to the meeting be adopted as the articles of association of the Company in substitution for, and to the exclusion of, the Company’s existing articles of association’ which received unanimous approval.

This was followed by the confirmation to the Board of Directors, of Jean Payne (Director of Clubs) and James Salt (Director of Golf Development).

Other important announcements were that Marjorie Griffiths (Ringway GC) was elected as Deputy President for 2025.

The 2024 President Roy Claxton (Eaton GC) gave his final speech giving great praise to the success of Cheshire players at all levels with a bright future in prospect and also to all of the county officials for their tremendous work which sees Cheshire nominated in the top three for England Golf’s County of the Year along with five other nominations in several other categories, more than any other County.

He then welcomed his successor as President, John Heggarty, (Royal Liverpool GC) into office (headline image above, John, left with Roy Claxton)

Cleveland then gave his annual report which again praised all in Cheshire for their hard work and achievements.

The meeting was concluded with a presentation by John Goddard (Withington GC) and Roland Harris (Northenden GC),who both gave a presentation of the appalling damage suffered by their clubs with the floods on the River Mersey and the awful effects on their clubs and they thanked Cheshire Golf and other member clubs for their great help and support in very challenging and difficult times.
