Frances takes on another top position

Former CCLGA Captain Frances Gell has had an outstanding career in golf and she is now looking forward to her year ahead as President of Bramhall Golf Club

Frances said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at this very friendly and inclusive golf club, and I feel both privileged and delighted to serve as President of BGC in 2025, being only the third lady to be nominated for this position.

“What a very special honour from this forward thinking and very friendly club. I look forward to serving the members over the next 12 months and supporting the new Captain, Stephen Sheard, and Lady Captain, Linzi Webster.

“At the drive-in my drive was only 111 yards!! Gone are the happy days of 180 yards, with a bit of run on the ball of course!

“My golf began when I joined Heaton Moor GC in 1981 and spent many happy years there, including nine years on the Ladies Committee, one as Lady Captain in 2002.

“We moved to Bramhall and joined the Bramhall GC in 2006.

“After three years I became a member of the Ladies Committee and served from 2009 to 2011 inclusive, then three years as Mixed Golf Organiser.

“At the end of that period I rejoined the Ladies Committee and served for another four years, including one year as Lady Captain in 2017.

“I also helped set up the England Golf initiative Get Into Golf for Ladies which was extremely successful and has increased our ladies section membership tremendously over the years.

“In 2020 I also became County Captain for Cheshire, serving a unique two years in this role thanks to COVID!”
