Cheshire Golf up for National Awards

Interview with David Durling (pictured)

Cheshire Golf Ltd is delighted to have been nominated in a number of categories for England Golf Awards, the presentation to be held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester on 2 April 2025.

Former Cheshire President David Durling, a member of Shrigley Hall Golf Club, has been deeply involved with Cheshire Golf over the last two years and he is delighted with the nominations.

David commented ‘I am delighted that Cheshire has been shortlisted for the England Golf Award of County of the Year 2025 alongside Lancashire and Hampshire.

‘During the last 12 months Cheshire has unified its Ladies and Men’s county organisations to form Cheshire Golf Ltd.

‘This was a huge undertaking and we were delighted to get it over the line in September 2024.

‘In addition we invested a considerable amount of money in county coaching of our players including young players which has resulted in great successes both at team and individual levels.

‘As a county we welcome all golfers and run a range of competitions including Life Members competitions for club golfers.

‘We now also invite iGolfers to play in our Handicap Trophy competition. Any income generated from iGolf is placed into our coaching programme.

‘We provide education to our clubs through seminars on a range of subjects including the World Handicapping System and sustainability.

‘The new Cheshire board is made up of a very committed group of ladies and men under the direction of Chair Cleveland McCurdy (Ringway GC) and we are looking forward to the future with confidence.’

Additional awards nominations for Cheshire include Facility of the Year (Need Golf Centre, Worleston), Volunteer of the Year (Jo Taylor, Cheadle GC and Peter McLeod, Bidston GC) and Women and Girls Trail Blazer, Hannah Morrison (Mellor GC).

A Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 will be presented to Cheshire Junior Golf Organiser Graham McCormack (Birchwood GC).
