Lucas wins thriller at Delamere

DELAMERE Forest Golf Club have hosted the Cheshire Boys Championship since 1984 and they again provided a top-class course in fantastic condition, superb clubhouse hospitality and great help with the organisation etc on the day.
In a week of awful weather the championship was lucky in having some pleasant conditions for the competitors to enjoy the 36-hole competition.
The defending champion Dan Hayes (Bramhall) returned from playing in the Carris Trophy and posted 74 in the first round, three more than playing partner Lucas Kuiper (Disley and Stockport) and Aaron Lavelle (Ringway) with Oscar Craig (Sandiway) and Aaron Mohun (Delamere Forest) also joining Dan on 74.
It was a thriller all the way in the second round in the race for the title with Dan Hayes 69 putting pressure on the two leaders.
But Lucas showed his determination to again post 71 for a winning score of 142, one less than Dan and Aaron Mohun was in third spot.
Aaron only arrived home at 1.30 am after enjoying a great result in Scotland the day before.
Lucas will now go on to represent Cheshire in the Boys County Champion of Champions event, organised by England Golf at Woodhall Spa on September 16.
Other prize winners were : Harry Riley (playing off a 15 handicap) who had the best nett score of 137 (70 + 67)
Jasper Hughes (playing off an 8 handicap) who had the best morning nett score of 68
For the best score in the afternoon, because Lucas and Daniel were already prize winners, Maxwell Iveson took the prize on a count-back on 74 (best back three holes) from Ben Buchanan.
Cheshire official Stewart Neil said:”I’m sure all of the competitors would like to thank Delamere Forest Golf Club and everyone associated with it for, once again, magnificently supporting the Boys Championship and making it a day to remember”.

Time to relax after 36 holes……
