Boys Hat-Trick in Four Counties

There has been a significant change to the Boys team line-up this year with several regulars having now progressed into the adult ranks. But team captain Cole Self remains and he was making an unprecedented sixth appearance by a Cheshire player in this annual event.

Held this year at the delightful Coxmoor GC in Nottinghamshire, Cheshire Boys had a tough opening match against a strong Shropshire and Herefordshire team. We eventually lost this contest 4-3 leaving us with much to do if we were to complete a hat-trick of wins. The afternoon match with Nottinghamshire, who in the morning had defeated Lancashire, saw our boys in fine form chalking up a 5-2 win.

The second day saw us complete the round-robin format with a match against neighbours Lancashire who are probably still smarting from the seven-nil drubbing we administered at Formby in 2024. We didn’t quite reach those heights, but a 5.5 to 1.5 win was a very strong performance. The result of the Notts / S&H match was a win for Notts which meant ourselves, Notts and S&H tied on 4 points each. Our superior games won, however, meant we wrapped up our first hat-trick of wins since 2003.

This is a very satisfying result, particularly with some new faces in the team and youngsters such as James Clarke and Ellis Courtnell establishing themselves as key team members. We can look forward with confidence to our league campaign and the “Little 6” qualifying event where we’ll bid to get back to the Boys County Finals we won in such dramatic fashion last August.

Cole Self signed off from this event with possibly the best record of any Cheshire player in the history of the Four Counties with 3 wins out of 6. Congratulations to him, his team, Andrew Henshall (Boys Manager) and our coaches. A tremendous start to 2026 for Cheshire Golf.
