Defeat on the road for Boys Team

Cheshire Boys made the long trip to Durham to begin their defence of the Northern Counties Junior League.

We were missing several key players who were either injured or unavailable and it proved to be vital against a team, including one local member, very familiar with an interesting course at Bishop Auckland with five par fives and five par threes

Several players were drafted in to replace the missing ones and they all contributed with only one player losing out in both the morning foursomes and afternoon singles.

The final score saw Durham win 9.5-5.5 with the Cheshire points coming from Harry Kell and Cole Self, Matty Griffiths and Stanley Williams and Ellis Courtnell and Lawson Yates in the foursomes and Maxi Moore, Joe Dodd-Berry. Josh Hockenhull and Ellis Courtnell in the singles.

Team manager Andrew Henshall said: “Hopefully the team can still win the other four league matches and end up joint top of the league if we get some or most of the above boys back in the team.

“Anyway, onwards and upwards and next game is away to Lancashire on July 14th, but we need to work on the team to get our best six in-form players coming to Northumberland for the Boys Northern Counties Qualifying at the start of July.”
