Ringway GC, of Hale Barns, has introduced a new and innovative membership category to attract new golfers to enjoy the social and health benefits of the sport.

Ringway has created an “Associate” category as an introduction to club membership. This allows the Associates a chance to sample the game, professional coaching and life at the club before committing to full membership.

As part of this initiative, Ringway held a Taster Session led by PGA Professionals James Salt and Oli Pantoja to encourage ladies to try the sport. James and Oli used ideas from England Golf to promote and run the successful event.

A total of 21 ladies attended to try their hands at putting, chipping and taking a full swing as well as sampling the bar and social life.

The day was also attended by Lady Captain, Ali Grant, and Sean Hammill, the County Development Officer for the Cheshire Golf Development Group. It was a roaring success, with another Taster Session now planned for September 4 – and more to come.

With these new enterprises, Ringway is building on its achievements as part of the Girls Golf Rocks and This Girl Can campaigns.

With a fantastic 49 girls passing through the coaching sessions, Ringway is one of the best performing clubs in the country. Participants can also progress to full Ringway membership via the Associate scheme.

Sean Hammill said: “Ringway has taken a proactive approach to encouraging new people into the sport – and on into club membership.

“A lot of people have entirely the wrong impression about the sport and the clubs. Once they take the plunge, they find that the clubs are more than welcoming, that expert coaching is available to help them get to grips with the skills required to play and that golf provides a healthy activity with a strong social side to it.

“Allied with the Girls Golf Rocks campaign, Ringway has taken a positive step towards encouraging more females into golf.

“It is a sport that can be played by all ages and abilities and there has never been a better time to take up the sport because the clubs are making it so easy with free taster sessions, discounted golf coaching and membership deals”.

Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire new golfers run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of Golf Development Groups, which work to grow the game.

Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends
