Six from Cheshire progress to Open Final Qualifying

A superb performance from Cheshire players saw four amateurs and two professionals get through Regional Qualifying on a day of brutal windy weather.

At Caldy, the beautifully presented course was fully exposed to the gale. Four Cheshire players progressed, with host club member Cameron Walker (a) tying for the top spot with YouTuber Peter Finch on one under par. Cheshire men’s team mates Jon Beesley (The Mere) and Max Ranson (Dunham Forest) were a shot back with superb level par rounds. Sam Johnston (a) on plus 2 made it through a play-off which saw former Cheshire champion James Ashfield agonisingly miss out.

Elsewhere professionals Josh Crumplin (Disley) and Rhys Nevin (Sandiway) also progressed.

Open qualifying scoring

Final qualifying sees many tour professionals enter the fray for a 36 hole shoot out on July 1st. Our nearest venue is West Lancs where entry is free. It’s a superb day out and there are no roped-off fairways allowing spectators to get very close to the players.

Tee sheets for Final Qualifying

Good luck to all from Cheshire who will tee it up in Final Qualifying!

UPDATE: two further Cheshire players have been promoted from reserves into Final Qualifying at West Lancs. They are James Ashfield (Delamere Forest), former Cheshire champion, and Jason Dransfield of Heswall. We therefore have 4 amateurs and 4 professionals in the field at West Lancs
