Sale Pro retires after 35 years

Sale Golf Club held a very special A.G.M. when the highlight of the evening was a ‘Special Presentation’ by Club Chairman, David Moore to Mike Stewart their retiring Golf Professional from 1991 – 2026 -35 years where he served the Club with Distinction!

After winning on the European Tour, Mike joined Alderley Edge Golf Club as Club Professional, then moved on to Sale for a dedicated and distinguished career.

Among the presentations to Mike on the evening was a Plaque to be sited by the 18th Green which records the re- naming of the hole as ‘Stewarts View’,

The Members also contributed to a personal day out, for Mike plus three guests, to be Chauffeur Driven to the Etihad Stadium to watch the Manchester City v Arsenal with a full Hospitality Package included.

It was done as Mike is a devoted ‘Gooner’ in spite of living a stone’s throw from two of the Best Premiership Clubs in the country !! -Manchester United & Burnley!

Another of the highlights of the evening was an ‘Hilarious No Notes Speech’ from Scott Booth, an ex-Assistant of Mike, who after learning his trade with Mike, then moved on to Cheadle then Chester Golf Clubs, before becoming Head Professional at the Chester & North Wales Golf Academy near Chester.

Scott would certainly quickly make a name for himself on the circuit of ‘After Dinner Speakers’ and was not only very funny, but made it clear how much admiration and respect he had for Mike.

Follow that!-said the Chairman and Mike responded with his typical dry humour, relating some stories about Scott (the repeatable ones only).

He then went on to say how much he had relied on the massive support he had received from members over the years.

Not naming names, Mike made reference to some of the members who were still playing with the same clubs and wearing the same golf shoes as when he joined the Club !!!

Mike, right, with Scott Booth

Finally, the Members were delighted that Mike was made an Honorary Life Member and they then stood as one to applaud and thank him for his superb service for over 35 years.
