‘Captain of Colour’ enjoying Stockport Captaincy

Raj Desai is looking forward to his year ahead as Captain of Stockport Golf Club where he has been a member for 11 years.
Raj said: “Stockport Golf Club is very fortunate that as we continue to experience wetter weather the course remains open, playing on normal tees, no temporary greens and we do not use mats.
“The club still has the tradition of a weekly presentation which is well supported and attended by both ladies and gentlemen.
“Friends I have at other clubs do not understand why we continue with weekly presentations but these are the reasons- to acknowledge and celebrate with the winners of the day, where the camaraderie with all members is a fantastic place to be.
“The Captain has a spot where he gives an unusual prize of his choice for a misdemeanour of something unusual/funny that happened during the game and members are very keen to share such an incident with the Captain.
“As I am known as the ‘Captain of Colour’ due to my love of bright clothing the lucky winner receives a bright coloured item!

“Presentation is also great for new members as they are introduced by the Captain and members do really make them welcome by signing with them for an upcoming game.
“Personally my current handicap is 7.9 and my lowest 5.3 and my favourite course other than Stockport is Royal Dornoch.
“My favourite hole at Stockport is the 14th because it has lovely features with plenty of slopes and a very challenging index of seven- it always reminds me of a course I played on Cape Cod in the USA.
“My own personal golfing highlight is my hole in one at Disley on the 13th- unfortunately it’s a blind hole so I did not see it go in – but I bought the drinks!
“I will be joining with Lady Captain Gerry Snook to support her chosen charity of The Christie.
“Finally my chosen four-ball to play in would be Ernie Els, as he was my hero when I first started playing, Vijay Singh to enjoy the company of Indian descent and Rory McIlroy because he has and continues to take the game to another level and is very clear on his views of LIV which I support.”
