Houldsworth are brilliant hosts for Life Members

Another large field of CUGC Life Members enjoyed their latest competition at the hidden gem of Houldsworth Golf Club.
Hidden in the shadows of the huge mills of Stockport’s past in textile manufacture the historic Houldsworth Golf Club repeated its excellent hosting of a CUGC U14 boys fixtures a couple of week previously.
A neat and testing course backed by excellent and friendly support from staff and members made this a great day of golf, which fortunately was restricted to just one heavy shower despite a gloomy weather forecast.
The Cheshire ‘Cream’ rose to the top in the competition with ex CUGC President Tony Gregory (Stockport) combining superbly with Jeff Stockton (Reddish Vale) for a top score of 41. Just a point back were Portal pair Jim Hayward and Martin Humphreys.
Hot on their heels with 39 were Cliff Bagnall (Alsager) and Paul Sturgeon (Helsby) who won a cpo from Sale duo Stephen Thomas and Richard Gray.
