Boys win season finale

Cheshire's Mixed Age boys defeat Lancashire at Houldsworth

Houldsworth Golf Club have hosted three county events this year and they have been perfect hosts every time.
Their course and clubhouse were best described by Graham McCormack on his first visit to the historic venue this year ‘ A true Oasis in a factory wilderness’.
The U-18s manager Andrew Henshall endorsed this as he said: “Houldsworth were magnificent in the way they looked after us and I would appreciate it if the house manager and their professional be sent a note of thanks on behalf of the county.
“The match was between Cheshire Mixed Age against old rivals Lancashire MA and on the day Lancashire had only 11 players as one of the boys had developed Covid overnight but it meant that we sent a three ball out with one Lancashire player involved in two games against two of our boys but it all worked out well in the end.
“The match was played in great spirit and some of our younger players make me even more optimistic for the County Boys Team over the next few years.
“I was very impressed by the younger ones who played and brought home the victory even Ricky Mohun who never gave up fighting despite his opponent sinking several long putts.”
Lancashire began strongly winning three of the first four games only Matty Griffiths (Lymm) rescuing a point with a close one up win.
Josh Hockenhull (Prestbury) won 4/2 to reduce the arrears as Lancashire went into the second half of the match leading 4-2.
Then Cheshire showed their battling qualities with wins for Ellis Courtnell (Ringway) 4/3, Jonah Ashworth (Delamere Forest) two up, Jasper Hughes (Wilmslow) 5/4 and James Clark (Sandiway) 6/4.
After Lancashire had won another game to keep the result in the balance the match was decided in the final game out on the course with Austin Eastwood (Caldy) winning 4/3 to clinch a 7-5 win for Cheshire.
