Wilmslow host Cheshire Schools Championship

Biggest field in English counties compete at Wilmslow GC

Wilmslow Golf Club were proud hosts for a record Cheshire Schools Golf Championship with a challenging and pristine course backed by excellent clubhouse hospitality and support from club members.

Wilmslow Captain Andrew Henshall said: “This is the second year that Cheshire have run the event after a gap of over 15 years.

“I think that the England Schools Golf Association has been going for 25 years or more and we had 126 entries, 110 boys and 14 girls playing on the day which is the biggest field in any county in the whole of 2025.

“I am not sure if any other event has been bigger than this but it is definitely a record turn-out for Cheshire.

“I would like to give thanks to Fiona Woolley and Ewa Papis who were on the registration desk all day as well as four Cheshire referees and members from the club, three starters and Jerry Dixon, Bob Hamilton and Jean Payne from Cheshire Golf when needed and also great support from the pro shop, caterers and staff who were there from 7am to welcome the early starters.

“There were various categories played for and the winning teams go forward to the English finals at the winning individuals go forward to the finals at Stoke Rochford GC and the u16’s to Wilmslow GC on May 19th.”

The girls champion Esme Graham added: “I was thrilled to have won. I love the Wilmslow course having played there recently with Cheshire Ladies.

“It’s a great start to my season and a highlight for sure.”

The prize winners were Best Gross Team – Stockport GS Nathan Hopley, Alfie Anderson and Jasper Hughes with a total of 226.

Best Nett team Lymm HS- Corey Fahy, Ted Myatt, Cormac Narey 198

Boys Best Gross (70)- Ben Buchanan Lymm HS and Dunham Forest GC, Lymm HS team

Girls Best Gross- Esme Graham West Kirby HS and Wallasey GC

Boys best nett Jenson Hamlin Weaverham HS and Sandiway GC

Girls best nett Emily Macauley Altrincham College and Ringway GC.
