John ready for a great year at Wilmslow

John Barnes is looking forward a great year as Captain of The Wilmslow Golf Club where he has been a member for 20 years.

He is following his role in the footsteps of former Cheshire President Andrew Henshall and outlines some of the outstanding features at the club which will make it a memorable year for him.

John said: “The Wilmslow Golf Club, due to course investment in the last 18 months, is fast becoming one of the best golf clubs in Cheshire having hosted the 2025 Cheshire Men’s County Championship as well as other regional and national competitions.

“The golf club, under new course management, has invested heavily in a new irrigation system, new and increased proactive greens team with quality machinery to create a first-class golfing experience. This is being backed up in the forthcoming years by an ambitious clubhouse refurbishment programme. The club provides superb catering to members and guests supported by a caring and professional clubhouse team. Not only is the course condition outstanding, catering and hospitality first class the energy, feel and vibe of the club is on a real high.

“It’s a privilege to be Captain of such a successful and prestigious Cheshire golf club. My favourite hole at the club is the 16th – beautifully manicured shaped hole requiring accuracy for both the tee shot and approach to the green.

“The charity I will be supporting as Capatin is ‘Maggies’.

“My own golfing highlights are two holes in one and if I could choose three players to join me in in a fourball they would be my three sons- family comes first!”
