Great Charity Effort at Prestbury GC on 20 June 2025

Prestbury Lady Captain Caroline Harrison-Croft was delighted with the success of the 72 hole challenge undertake by Prestbury member Liz Thomas to raise funds for her chosen charity of East Cheshire Hospice.

Liz is the first Prestbury lady to take on the 72 hole challenge which has to date raised £4,608 plus £1,080 in gift aid.

Caroline commented “l have always supported East Cheshire Hospice, they do an amazing job. In November 2023 my Mum came from the South to stay with me as she was not feeling well. It subsequently transpired that she had cancer and died a month later.

“She spent her final four weeks at my home but during the last 10 days we were magnificently supported by East Cheshire Hospice’s ‘Hospice at Home’ and l don’t think l could have managed without their help. They visited at least twice a day and were a great help with my Mum’s care.

“l was so excited when Liz said she wanted to take on the 72 hole challenge for the charity. There is no record of any lady having previously taken on this challenge at Prestbury. l have been overwhelmed by the amount of money Liz has raised, it has far exceeded my expectations.

Liz added “l wanted to support Caroline during her captaincy and the 72 hole challenge is something l have been thinking about since my friend did the same challenge at Tytherington GC. I am fairly fit and an exercise nut so carried out no special preparations for the day.

“We teed off at 5.35am and each round took two hours and 40 minutes. Everyone was fantastic on the course in letting us play through. My current handicap is 9.2 and there were plenty of numbers to report on the day – one blister, one lost ball, 45,800 steps, 3,952 calories burnt. Rounds scores of 89, 87,85 and 91.

“l would like to say a huge thank you to my support team on the day, to Prestbury GC for their support, to the amazing ladies who turned out to support me and to all those who sponsored me.

“l woke up the next day a little hung over but otherwise great and ran a slow 5k to pick up my car.
