Steve Carling wins 2025 Handicap Trophy

The Cheshire Handicap Trophy competition saw all of the players and county officials enjoy a great day at Eastham Lodge GC.

County official Bob Hamilton said: “Our thanks also go to our splendid hosts, Eastham Lodge Golf Club – we received many compliments from the competitors about the condition of the course which were well deserved and we were well looked after by all of the staff -many thanks to everybody at the club both on and off the course.”

A close contest saw Steven Carling (Helsby GC) win the Champions Trophy with a net score of 36..

The runner-up, using his local knowledge of his home course, was Robert Manning with a score of 34 points, just beating Lynn Berry of Sandiway GC on a count-back on the back nine of 19 against 14.

The best score by a low handicapper (excluding the winners above) was 32 by Pete Hamlett of Ashton-on-Mersey GC after a count-back against Philip Clark (Chorlton GC)).

The best score by a high handicapper was also 32 by Carol Liversage after a count-back with David Hicks (Poulton Park GC).

Congratulations to all of the winners and everyone involved in making this a most enjoyable and competitive competition and one to book in the 2026 County Calendar

Eastham Lodge Captain Steve Bond was on hand to give out the prizes and he was given plenty of deserved compliments by the players.
