Cheshire Life Members at Northenden – Runcorn rule the roost

Northenden Golf Club put on a great show in staging the final Cheshire Life Members competition of a very successful and enjoyable series across the county.

The great recovery of the Northenden club from the January flooding was admired by the players and officials with the greens getting rave reviews from all of the players.

It was the seventh competition of the season with the final cards of 2025 being issued to Stephen Atkinson and Neil Sadler by Jerry and Robert.

The last card is issued. What a relief!

The early benchmark of 45 points was set by Terry Johnson and Dave Pilkington (Helsby GC) and it stayed in top spot until Runcorn’s John Coxon and Carl Smith came in with unstoppable 48 which they maintained until the end of another long day.

Sale Golf Club’s dynamic duo of Robert Barlow and John Simpson posted 45 to take third spot and the other top finishers with 44 were James and David McCann (Mersey Valley)

Nearest the pin was Mike Hinde (Styal) who apparently almost holed out with his tee shot. Mike was most disappointed at missing out on buying us all a drink!

But a great day for golf and a fitting end to the Life Members season in lovely weather with great help from Northenden staff and members on and off the course.

A raffle was held to provide Northenden with more much needed funds to help aid their recovery from the January disaster. In total £505 was raised with the top prize of a round for four at Northenden being won by Stephen Saunders.
