Three Senior Men achieve appearance Milestone

2025 has seen three of the current Men’s Senior team break through some significant appearance milestones.

Leading the way is David Nelson (Northenden) who in the recent match at Lee Park against old rivals Lancashire, David clocked up his 100th appearance. He made his debut against North Wales at Morfa Nefyn in 2011, and it takes many years of continued brilliance to accumulate 100 appearances.

Not only has David represented England at Senior level but he is a multiple Cheshire Matchplay Champion and Cheshire Strokeplay Champion.

He triumphed in Matchplay Championships at Heswall, Northenden and Wychwood Park.

The Strokeplay Championship wins occurred in 2012 Reddish Vale, 2015 Sandiway in a 3-hole playoff, 2017 at Ringway again in a 3-hole playoff plus this year’s event at Vicars Cross.

That same match was also a landmark for Gareth Bradley (Bramhall) who racked up his 50th appearance. His journey started against Cumbria at Brampton Golf Club in July 2018, being paired with the legend Ron Harrison.

Like David, Gareth is a multiple Cheshire Matchplay Champion and Cheshire Strokeplay Champion.

His Senior Strokeplay triumph occurred in 2019 at Delamere Forest with Senior Matchplay victories in 2021 at Sandiway, 2024 at Prestbury and 2025 at Warrington This year he added prestigious Senior Frank Stableford Trophy at Wallasey to the trophy cabinet.

Senior Team Captain, Martin Keates just beat Gareth to the 50th landmark in the match against Yorkshire at his home club Prestbury. His journey started against Denbighshire at Leasowe Golf Club on 27 Match 2019, a date he can easily recall as it was just 4 days after his 55th birthday. Guiding around that day was another Senior legend, John Williams.

Martin secured the Seniors Strokeplay in 2020 at Eaton and 2024 at Bromborough. Martin must like that course, as this year he was pleased to add the Gordon Edwards Trophy to the collection.

Well done to all three, it has taken many years of fine golf to achieve these milestones.

Next stop is the England Senior County Finals at Harrowgate in October were all three will be doing there bit to help the team pull off even more success.
