New direction for Scroungers at Chorlton

The Scroungers Golf Society have raised well over £200,000 over that past 30 years to raise funds to provide powered wheelchairs for children with disabilities and took their total to 212 following a fantastic event at Chorlton Cum Hardy Golf Club who have been regular supporters for the Scroungers over many years and it marked a new direction for them to link up with New Bridge Academy Trust.

Scroungers Honorary President Rod Wild said: The reason why we chose New Bridge Academy Trust is that for many years the Scroungers have struggled to find suitable recipients. They were recommended by a family member and following a visit it was decided that we should make use of the Trust’s needs. They cater for children from six to nineteen years old and have 14 schools within its catchment area.

Scroungers have had 11 venues this year for competitions culminating in the final one at Chorlton where six chairs were presented on behalf of the Ladies section of Crompton and Royton Golf Club who raised £3,000 at their charity day held on 13th August.

A big thank you to Chorlton Cum Hardy Golf Club who are recognised as the home of golf for the Scroungers and  in particular their Captain Peter Harrison-Johnson who presented the six chairs on the day and took students Staffa and Emanuel out for a putting experience.

A commemorative plaque now has pride of place in the clubhouse recognising the total to date of 212 wheelchairs donated by the Scroungers for children with disability.
