Thrilling finish in superb Cheshire Ladies Team Finals

Over the past six months hundreds of ladies, of all ages and abilities have enjoyed representing their club teams in the East and West Cheshire League competitions. Their aim has been to reach the finals of the Cheshire Ladies Team Championships where the winners from East and West Cheshire meet up in a grand finale to the season.

The host club for this year’s finals was Crewe GC who put on a fantastic show with their excellent course and superb clubhouse facilities with a friendly welcome and top class hospitality which drew universal and well deserved praise from organisers, players and supporters during a very busy day.

First up was the battle for the A Team trophy between two very talented teams from Astbury and Delamere Forest. Cheshire Girls Captain Astbury’s Eryn Gravett gave her team an early lead before Chrissie Harding Roberts drew Forest level.

Jane Pickup restored the Astbury lead but Rhian Jones and Sarah Loy won the final two games to see Delamere win 3-2

Next up was the B team match between Stockport and Chester, who were making their first-ever final appearance.

Natasha Brown and Tracy Pickford gave Stockport an early 2-0 lead before Chester roared back with wins from Gail Powell and Helen Dailing to set up a tense finish.

Mary Williamson restored the Stockport lead but Chester were not to be denied their first win in the competition as Jackie Wallery and Patricia Antlett kept their nerve with comfortable wins to see them home for some great celebrations.

Chester Team Janet Stewart, Helen Dalling, Jackie Wallery, Gail Powell , Lady Captain Philipa Stead, Kay Skinner, Patricia Antlett, Sandy McDonough.

The Plate final between Bramall Park and Carden Park proved to be real nail-biter finishing in dramatic style on the 18th green.

It was nip and tuck all the way with Jacky Broderick giving Bramall the early lead quickly ruled out by Sue Norman and Sue Ratcliffe for Carden.

Bramall showed their resolve to restore their lead with wins for Danuta Silva and Louise Gould.

Carden drew level with a win for Sarah McMahon so it was now all eyes on the final match between Pam Ellison (Bramall) and Bridie Llewellyn (Carden).

It was decided with a fantastic long putt from Pam which drew great applause from the watching audience and gave her team the trophy.

Bramall Park Team Louise Gould, Pam Ellison, Sarah Nixon Danuta Silva, Jacky Broderick, Maria Bailey, Deb Kershaw.

A great day for ladies golf in Cheshire at an excellent venue and superbly organised by the East/West officials.
