Top PGA Award for Ben

Romiley Golf Club professional Graham Drabble was delighted to receive the news that his assistant Ben Davies has won a top national PGA award’

Graham said:” We are thrilled to announce that our very own Ben Davies has been awarded the PGA Trainee of the Year for last year – one of the most prestigious honours the PGA bestows upon emerging professionals.

“This award recognises not only exceptional playing ability, but also academic achievement, coaching expertise, professional conduct, and an unwavering commitment to the values of the game. Being selected from trainees across the country is an outstanding accomplishment and a testament to Ben’s dedication, work ethic, and passion for continual improvement.

“For our golf club, this accolade is more than just a personal triumph for Ben – it shines a spotlight on the entire club community. Having a member of our professional team recognised at this level enhances our reputation for excellence, strengthens the profile of our coaching programme, and reinforces the high standards we strive to uphold both on and off the course.

“Everyone at Romiley will be congratulating Ben on this remarkable achievement. We are proud to have him as part of our professional team and look forward to seeing his continued success inspire golfers throughout the club.”

The award is Top Year 2 Trainee for the PGA England and Wales (North) TGI Award

Ben outlined his pathway in golf: “I began my golfing journey at Mellor and Townscliffe GC playing junior golf and started working in the professional shop.

“I joined Graham at Romiley Golf Club a few years ago and would credit him a great deal with my development, encouraging me to start the PGA qualification in the first place and helping me a great deal.

“I took up golf at a young age and would give credit to both my mum and dad for encouraging me to play and helping me learn and enjoy the game of golf.

“The main reason for receiving the ‘Top Year 2 Trainee’ PGA award is typically that you demonstrated the strongest overall performance out of all Year 2 trainees in the PGA England Wales (North) training programme.

“In my current role my most enjoyable aspect of my job is coaching golfers. This is where I see my future in the game of golf and the thing that I strive to learn and and develop at every day.

“My highlights in my current role would be individual student development and seeing a great number of students come on a great deal since beginning coaching with me.

“I currently run the ladies ‘Get into Golf’ coaching classes and this is one of my proudest developments – to see not only how they have improved since the beginning and how much they simply enjoy the game of golf and what goes along with it, the very reason I decided to work in the game.

“I will receive the award at the Regional Members Meeting in February – I believe it is a certificate.”
