The historic Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club has hosted the Cheshire Mixed Foursomes Championships since its relaunch post Covid.

There were 24 pairs in the field from clubs across the county and they were able to enjoy a dry day.
Cheshire dignitaries, chairman Cleve McCurdy and Vice President Marjorie Griffiths (Ringway) with Abby Baumber and Garry Winstanley (Sandiway) had a solid round with Cleve and Marjorie setting the early benchmark with 30. With Cleve giving Marjorie deserved praise for her impressive short game.

The lead was taken over by former Cheshire Ladies Champion Emily McBurney (Royal Liverpool) and Chris Morrison (Vicars Cross) with 35.

Then the competition was taken apart by Alder Root’s dynamic duo Kris Partington and June Dowd with 41 which equals two previous record scores in the competition.

Then came a sting in the tail from Roger Hopton (Tytherington) and Tessa Connolly (Bramhall) with 37 to move into second place one more than Styal’s Jeffrey Chadwick and Jackie Poyser to complete the prize list.

The winners were presented with their prizes in the magnificent Vale Royal great hall by Marjorie Griffiths who gave deserved thanks to the players and Vale Royal Abbey GC for an excellent day of golf with many new friends being made.
