Dan Hayes represents GB&I Boys

The Jacques Leglise Trophy is the annual match between the boys teams of GB&I and Continental Europe.

This prestigious match has has a history going back to 1958 and previous participants from Cheshire are David Bathgate (1987), Sandeep Grewal (1999) Daniel Wardrop (2001) Mark Pilling (2002) Paul Waring (2002/2003*). Dan Hayes of Bramhall GC was selected after another stellar season in which he was runner-up in both the Brabazon and England Under-18 championships, reached the quarter finals of the British Boys and won the Carris Trophy. He also won the Cheshire Cat, S&A Bowl, Lancashire Links Championship, represented England Boys and at the age of 17 was promoted from the England Boys team to the Men’s for the Home Internationals. Quite a season so far!

The 2024 renewal of the match was held at West Lancs GC. Gale force winds forced the abandonment of the opening day foursomes, but the wind abated sufficiently for nine singles matches in the afternoon. Dan halved his match.
GB&I suffered a whitewash in the morning foursomes on the second day, putting Europe in a commanding position ahead of the final singles session. Dan won his singles 3&2 but this was not enough to prevent Europe recording a 12 – 10 victory.

Huge congratulations to Dan whose golf is going from strength to strength.
