Successful trip to Newcastle for Cheshire men

Cheshire players and officials endured some very wet and windy weather at Newcastle United Golf Club in their latest Northern Counties League match against Northumberland.
The morning foursomes saw the home team enjoy a 4-2 lead with the old firm of Jon Beesley and Chris Chilton (Warrington) 3&1 and Josh Sims (Caldy) and Cole Self (Ringway) picking up what proved to be the vital points for Cheshire.
The home team extended their lead after the first four matches as only Sam Burton (Prestbury) with a half and Chris Chilton one up picked up points.
Then Cheshire came out with all guns blazing with wins for Sam Prince (Ringway), Remy Miller (Prestbury), Liam Gobin (Sandiway), Rory McDonald-O’Brien (Royal Liverpool), Cole Self and a half for Josh Sims.
It was down to Paul McFerran (Warrington) in the final match to win a thriller by one up to take Cheshire to victory by 10-8.
It was an early birthday present for Paul who was celebrating his birthday next day!
The result takes Cheshire level on points with Lancashire and Yorkshire with Yorkshire on top with points scores – 33.5 to Cheshire 32.5 and Lancashire 28.
The big crunch match is next month at Eaton when Cheshire host Yorkshire so all support is welcome.
