U14s win away in Lancashire

Cheshire U14’s made the trip to Nelson GC to take on their Lancashire counterparts, who were short of players and included some older players in their team.

U 14 managerGraham McCormack reported: “We agreed with Lancashire last year to play our matches off scratch, as both of us are normally able to field a strong squad.

“The handicaps were in our favour for a change, which did help us achieve a very credible 7-4 win today and well done to all of the team/

“I give my special thanks to parents who made the 100-150 mile + round trip and also to Mike (Jones) and Matt (Turnock) our professional for their support on the day.

“A big thank-you to Paul (Cooper) for the souvenir team picture-top drawer!

“A very nice comment was made to me by the parent of a Lancashire junior, which I’d like to share with you: ‘I’m very impressed with the team spirit of your juniors, it was so nice to see them all together at the first tee, supporting their player when he teed off, whilst all the Lancashire players stood around separately, I was impressed’ he said’.

“That was the icing on the cake for me, you have ALL bonded as a team.”

In the match Lancashire got off to a flying start with narrow wins in the opening two games against Max Gilsenan (Chorlton) and Will Furness (Ringway).

Cheshire hit back with wins for George Bull (Disley) 5/4, James Woby (Alsager) 4/3 and Aidan Lam (Prestbury) 3/1 to take the lead.

Lancashire had wins in the next two games against Pierce Freeman (Delamere Forest) and Jeremy Ju (Hazel Grove to regain the lead.

But Cheshire had a real sting in the tail as they won the last four games to complete an impressive win with victories for Alfie Ogden (Wallasey) one up, Toby Cooper (Ringway) 4/3, James Prest (Romiley) 3/2 and Tomas Balakrishnan (Wallasey) also 3/2.
