John, Cheshire Golf President, has had a distinguished golfing career. He was Head Professional of Royal Liverpool from 1982 to 2023, a member of the PGA Board of Directors from 1996 to 2015 and PGA of GB and Ireland from 2017 to 2019. In the 1990s John was invited to join the R&A & PGA Golf Ambassador programme where he worked on development of golf in Khazakstan & Hungary. John has attended 10 Ryder Cups and served on the Ryder Cup Board for the matches in 2014 and 2016 including the one at Medinah.
John has been a PGA Golf Swing Tutor & Examiner since 2008 and a Cheshire County Coach since 2010. John was awarded PGA Master Professional Status in 2016. To date there have only been a total of 65 recipients of this prestigious award in the history of the PGA.
In September 2024 John was appointed President of Cheshire Golf Ltd.

Can you recommend a must play golf course in Cheshire and anywhere in the world?
We are so blessed with a huge variety of golf course my recommendation would be to get a Cheshire card and enjoy great discounts at many courses.
Not any easy wish but Cypress Point, California would be my No1 recommendation.
What would be your choice of an Imaginary 4ball ? (If you could play golf with any three individuals)

What would you say to anyone thinking of taking up golf but is not sure about it?
Don’t think just do. For so many reasons golf will provide you with exercise, relaxation, panoramic vistas, opportunities and friendships.
What are your hopes for the future of golf in Cheshire?
As a unified body we can help to develop strategies and protocols that allow all areas of the game to flourish.
