Five Cheshire players seek Open spots

Five Cheshire amateurs have done brilliantly to progress to final qualifying for the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool starting on 20th July. Qualifying takes place on Tuesday 4th July over 36 holes. Four players from each venue will progress to the Open. The Cheshire players and their qualifying venues are:

Matthew Dodd Berry (Royal Liverpool) @ West Lancs

James Ashfield (Delamere Forest) @ West Lancs

Mark Kimpton (Vicars Cross) @ Dundonald Links

Fraser MacLeod (Stockport) @ Dundonald Links

Rory McDonald-O’Brien (Royal Liverpool) @ Royal Porthcawl

Best of luck to all five Cheshire players and to professionals Marcus Mohr (Eaton) and Matthew Jordan (Royal Liverpool). Matthew is in a group with Sergio Garcia and former Cheshire player Jamie Donaldson at West Lancs.

UPDATE 30th June: Make that SIX players! Daniel Hayes (Bramhall) was on the reserve list and has got in at Royal Cinque Ports.
