Six-timer for Cole in Four Counties

Ringway Golf Club and Cheshire Junior Boys star Cole Self has been an outstanding member of the Cheshire Boys squads for over six years, being an integral part of their recent successes.

He has also been a regular for the Cheshire Men’s team in recent years.

He is set to take up an American Golf Scholarship later in the year but is hoping to help Cheshire Boys repeat their superb successes in 2025 when they won the Four Counties, the Northern Counties Junior Championship capped by winning the English County Boys Championship for the first time in 27 years

Cole will be representing Cheshire in the Four Counties Boys Tournament next week when they take on Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and S &H (Shropshire and Herefordshire) at Coxmoor Golf Club in Nottinghamshire.

It is a scratch matchplay event in which each county plays each other over 18 holes of seven singles.

Each county plays two matches on Day 1 and the third on Day 2.

It is an eight-player team event where each player must play at least twice.

In the tournament’s early days golfing legends such as Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam, Tommy Fleetwood and Peter Barber took part.

Cole played his first match in the tournament at Eaton GC in 2021 and subsequently in 2022 at Hollinwell, 2023 at Bridgnorth, 2024 at Formby (when Cheshire won), and in 2025 at Wallasey where Cheshire retained their title.

He will be setting a record for appearances by a Cheshire player, eclipsing David Bathgate’s 5 outings in the 1980s.

Cole and his Cheshire team mates have been working hard throughout the winter in preparation for the new season and got together this week for some match-play practice at Wilmslow Golf Club.

Congratulations to Cole for his record achievement and the best of luck to him and the team at Coxmoor.
