Astbury Golf Club's Bobby Brightwell is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former finalists Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Nick Dougherty after taking the first step on the pathway to junior golf success.

Brightwell secured his place at Finals Week of the Sky Sports Junior European Open by qualifying at Reddish Vale Golf Club carding an impressive gross 73 in one of the tournament's qualifying events.

The talented Astbury junior will be joined at the finals by George Elwin of Wrexham Golf Club and Gabriella Schofield of Hillside Golf Club. The trio will head to the Azata Golf Course in Estepona, Spain, where they will compete against some of the best young golfers in Europe.

Finals Week presents a stern test, with all competitors guaranteed four rounds of golf and those making the cut earning the opportunity to play a fifth round

While such a challenge might prove daunting for many, it is the type of examination that gifted young golfers relish.

First staged in 1993 and now in its 34th year, the Junior European Open is widely regarded as one of the toughest tests in junior golf anywhere in Europe.

The event continues to grow in stature, with a world-record field of 176 juniors competing in the 2025 finals.
