Good experience for new players despite defeat

Depleted Under 16s team lose to Yorkshire at Houldsworth

Good experience for new players despite defeat

Houldsworth Golf Club is a hidden gem of a golf club situated between some old cotton mills and on the Stockport / Manchester border with a lovely clubhouse and excellent course.

They were great hosts for the match between Cheshire and Yorkshire Boys U 16 teams.

Cheshire boys manager Andrew Henshall reported:“ Given how many players were missing from the team (A total of 25 from across those still eligible to play for the Under 16s). Cheshire still managed to field a very strong team.

“But unfortunately their opponents from Yorkshire were both better on paper and on the course where it really mattered.

“There were debuts at this level for several players and whilst Jack Barnes and Jayden Tommy won convincingly in the morning our only other success was Henry and William Quinn who were playing together for the first time as a Foursomes partnership.

“Trailing 4:2 at lunch Cheshire won two of the first three singles matches with Max Gilsenan finishing two up and Pierce Freeman winning 5&4.

“But alas after that great start to the afternoon our only other success was Luke Doran who won 3&2.

“The final result was 13-5 to Yorkshire which they thoroughly deserved.

“But a lot of our team who played this year will be young enough to play in this fixture over the next two years and hopefully the experience will inspire them to a better result next time we play against Yorkshire at Under 16 level.”
