Heswall host excellent Northern U16 Championship

The Northern Junior Under16 Golf Championship alternates every three years between Pannal and Heswall Golf Clubs. Its England Golf Ranking sees boys and girls at U 16 and U14 levels from across the UK aiming to show their talent.

There were a massive 270 applications to take part which were scaled down to 152 via a ballot on handicaps.

2026 was the second time that a Cheshire club had hosted the event and again it was Heswall GC who were proud hosts and will continue to host it in 2027 and 2028.

Heswall, led by Dawn Hodge, were magnificent hosts both on and off the course for three days with staff and members doing a great job, along with Cheshire officials with the weather causing problems on the second day.

The Heswall course drew great compliments from players and their supporters being in great condition and providing realchallenges.

There were supposed to be two rounds played on the first two days before a cut was made, with the remaining players playing 36 holes on Day Three

Day One went well, but heavy rain and thunderstorms washed out Day Two with the cut being made on the first round scores.

There was some light rain at times on Day Three but it did not affect play and the presentation was able to be completed in bright sunshine by the side of the 18th green.

There were trophies awarded for the top 16 boy and girl and u14 boy and girl with other prizes on offer to the other top players in each section.

The prizes were presented by Heswall Captain Keith Rafferty and Lady Captain Ruth Walker and Cheshire Vice President Stewart Neil and Dawn Hodge gave deserving thanks and praise to everyone on and off the course who had this such a great competition with some great talent on show.
