Holtom and Wigley are Foursomes Champions
Bramhall GC with their re-modelled course are fabulous hosts for 93rd Men's Foursomes Championship

The 93rd Men’s Foursomes Championship was hosted by Bramhall Golf Club, with 60 players taking part in the prestigious 36-hole competition on a beautifully presented and recently modified course.
Foursomes has a long and fascinating history in Cheshire golf. A century ago, it was really the only pairs format played, and in 1923, County President R.H. Prestwich generously donated the magnificent trophy that is still played for today.
The 1923 competition was played as a matchplay event, with the Stockport pairing of Sid Potter and Israel Sidebottom claiming the title.
The tournament format changed during the 1990s, becoming a 36-hole, one-day event, reflecting the changing formats and development of competitive golf.
This year’s championship produced an outstanding performance from Mike Holtom of Hazel Grove and Alex Wigley of Stockport taking the title with an impressive gross score of 69+68=137.
The pair also secured the Victory Trophy for the nett competition, finishing with a superb score of 131 – an outstanding double victory.
Runners-up in both the Gross and Nett competitions were James Clark of Sandiway and Josh Hockenhull of Prestbury, who enjoyed an excellent championship.
Third place went to Lewis Meston and Nat Bamford of Bramhall Park, while Matt Bonner and James Parkes, both from Hazel Grove, finished fourth.
Following the competition, Cheshire President Marjorie Griffiths gave an enlightening speech, outlining the history and story behind this prestigious event before presenting the winners with their trophies and prizes.
A special thank you was also given to Jerry Dixon, along with starter Kevin McCormack, referees Alan Adams and Mike Clarke for their valuable contribution to the smooth running of the championship.
Congratulations to Mike and Alex on a fantastic performance and a memorable Foursomes Championship victory. And huge thanks to Bramhall GC who were fabulous hosts
