Hospice benefits from Ringway event

John Nono was a much loved and truly remarkable man who enjoyed his golf at Chorlton and Ringway Golf Clubs for many years working hard for both clubs and making many friends as well as getting his name on plenty of honours boards.
His friends decided to hold a charity golf day at Ringway to celebrate his life and raise funds for the Moya Cole Hospice (formerly St Ann’s Hospice) in recognition of the care John received there during the final weeks of his life which was simply outstanding.
Long-time friends of John and event organisers Phil Osborne and Neil Greenhalgh combined forces and said; “The golf competition was a Four Person Team and we were given prizes and auction items from a variety of sponsors and friends of John to add to the funds raised and given great support on and off the course by Ringway Golf Club.
“John gave so much to Ringway. He poured his time and heart into developing the junior section, helping it to thrive.
“And for nine years he captained and managed the Seniors Scratch team, always showing up – rain or shine- to support, encourage and inspire, which was much appreciated by all who played for the team.
“John put in many years supporting the development of juniors at Ringway and coming back to enjoy the day, with 19 teams taking part were the ‘John’s Juniors’ team ( Cam Quealy, Ben Greenhalgh, Rory Entwistle and Charlie Whittaker) who were the top team with a remarkable 93 points and ‘NoNo’s Naughty Nibblers’ who were third.
”Another team enjoying the day were the classy ‘Cheshire Chicks’ team led by Cheshire President Marjorie Griffiths, Cheshire Girls Organiser Cathy Day, Cheshire Assistant Secretary Abby Baumber and Cheshire Senior Ladies Captain Tiff Fielden.
“We had a great time in the evening, eating, drinking and reminiscing, along with members of John’s family, and the auction was run very effectively by Steve Hannon.
“At the end of a fantastic day a total of £6,441.80 was raised for the charity and we were delighted to be able to present the cheque to Moya Cole Community Fundraiser George Bartram.”
