Bare Necessities is a volunteer-led charity which works to relieve hygiene poverty by providing free essential toiletries to local people in need.
BN Organiser Abigail Gill said: “This was our sixth Golf Day and all six have been at the Wilmslow Golf Club and we had 26 teams of four players enjoying a great competition and supporting the charity
“This day is our most significant fundraiser and helps us keep the show on the road. Last year we spent £88,000 buying toiletries to supplement donated items and we expect a similar figure in 2026.
“The top scorers were "Cheshire Boys Golf Helpers" captained by David Durling and including Marjorie Griffiths (President of Cheshire Golf ) Heather Henshall and Jerry Dixon with a nett 53.
“Then four teams were all on 55 points so a card count back to decide the places which were The Jolly Boys Andrew Russell, Tim Nicholson, Stephen Lewis and Lee Charnley (2nd) McGarrie Vahey Simon Carling, Sean Hall, Phil Walton and Toby Powell(3rd) Annwyl Lancs, Shaun Sumner, Matt Gould, Paul Darwin, Matthew Sutherland 4th, The Tee PLOs Colin Innes, Mark Morton, Paul Adams and Alex McVey (5th).”
A delighted David Durling (Shrigley Hall GC) reported on his team’s success: “We had a bogey-free round of gross 66.
“It contained an eagle on the seventh and a birdie on the par three ninth where Marjorie and I both ‘Beat the Pro’.
“On the back nine we remained three under par in the rainy conditions, until we reached the 16th tee and finished with three birdies to post a gross six under par round of 66.
“We had 13 shots under the Texas Scramble rules to give us a net score of 53 enabling us to win by two shots.”
