Huge charity effort at Portal

Portal Golf Club’s 2024 Captain Steve Sambell and Lady Captain Susan Alexander were delighted to be able to present a fantastic cheque for £33, 025 to their chosen charity of St Luke’s Hospice, Cheshire.

Steve said: “We selected St Luke’s as it is a local, incredibly important and something our members would be likely to relate to as they may know of someone who will have already used the services or might use them in the future.

“To raise funds we ran several events throughout the year and specific events which raised significant funds were Quiz and Bingo nights, our Longest Day Challenge, our Annual Charity Day and an auction run by one of our long-standing members.

“Susan and I would like to thank our members for their outstanding generosity and support with specific thanks to members Pat Roper and Sharon Tidd who enabled a significant fund raise towards our overall amount.

“Some of the funds have already been used towards day-care for Dementia and Alzheimer patients and also some respite care for carers, with other funds being allocated as required.

“We presented the cheque to St Luke’s officials Chairman Mike Ridley and Community Partnership Manager Angela Slack.”
