Linzi’s Team Beat Their Target!

Linzi in action

Bramhall Golf Club’s Lady Captain Linzi Webster and her volunteer team set themselves a tough target as they celebrated their club’s 120-year anniversary and raised funds for her chosen Charity ‘Support Dogs’ with a rowing challenge of 120km.

Linzi said: “The Rowing Challenge was conceived as a fundraiser for my Lady Captains Charity , ‘Support Dogs’ and the target distance of 120kms was in recognition of Bramhall Golf Club’s 120th Anniversary this year.

“The aim was always to row ‘tag team ‘ style for 120kms in 12 hours.

“I can’t remember why I chose this challenge exactly as I am definitely not a rower and nor were the members of the team, but maybe that was why … we needed a proper challenge !

“A rowing machine was set up in the clubhouse and we started at 7am and we achieved 120kms in 10 hours and 9 minutes .

“We all agreed to continue to 7pm , being the 12 hour time frame originally set .

“By that time the clubhouse was buzzing with people and the atmosphere was amazing  . The last few hours flew by ! The end distance rowed was in fact 135kms.

“We had a core team of nine with everyone rowing at least 12kms in 2km stints over the day, and several rowing more.

“We also had the occasional guest rower who dropped in for a star kilometre or two here and there !

“A JustGiving page was set up for online donations  ( https://www.justgiving.com/page/bgc-ladycaptain ) and sponsor sheets were in the clubhouse . “The final total is not quite determined yet but the figure is currently standing at circa  £3,500 which is absolutely fantastic and a  real testament to the support and goodwill of BGC members, family and friends and I am overwhelmed by this.

“The charity is Support Dogs ( charity no: 1088281) who train dogs specifically for people with Autism , Epilepsy (Seizure Alert ) and Disability , allowing them to be able to live as independently as possible.

“These highly trained dogs gives individuals the chance to live their best life they can.

“It takes £27,000 to train a dog which then has a working life of 6-8 years before being retired , and the charity relies entirely on voluntary contributions.

“Read their website – Support Dogs Charity  is quite simply…. awe inspiring!

“I have worked with this charity before,  and when I became Lady Captain of BGC they were always going to be my choice of charity this year.

“I would like to give a huge thanks to all my rowers for being so willing and amazing – a really united team .  Thanks all – it was fun x.

“Also to the BGC House Team  who were very relaxed about their bar  becoming a mini-gym for the day and most importantly,  to everyone that so generously sponsored us.”
