Wilmslow are great hosts for Cheshire Schools

First to tee off was Nathan Hopley from Stockport Grammar School using his one iron to drill the ball into a near hurricane wind. His tactics worked and for most of the day his gross 70 and nett 70 led the way.

Until James Prest, from the Dowson Primary Academy in Hyde came in with a nett 69 playing off 23 handicap.

James is a member at Stockport and Romiley Golf Clubs.

The girls’ prizes were won by Eryn Gravett from Macclesfield College who narrowly beat her sister Emilia who was representing The Kings School in Macclesfield

Their home club is Astbury.

Three helpers from Wilmslow Golf Club, Andrew Henshall, Fiona Woolley and Ewa Papis were joined by Nathan Lockwood from Hazel Grove High School in running the event.

Given the recent weather the course was in incredibly good condition with the greens playing extremely fast. The rain stayed off and although it was very windy everyone stayed dry. Perhaps a first this year!

It was great to see over 70 parents and players stayed for the presentation including several teachers who’d come to support their schools.

Wilmslow Lady Captain Fiona Woolley, who presented the prizes said: “The day was a great success, so good to see many juniors enjoying their golf, and pleased we could share our fabulous course with them.” .
