Romiley Junior Open Day is great success

England Golf are keen to get more boys and girls into golf and they are given great support by the Cheshire Golf Union and many of the Cheshire clubs.
Romiley Golf Club has made great efforts in recent months to recruit new lady members and ladies new to golf with great success.
They held an England Golf Activators course at their club and six people, including new lady members, volunteered to help England Golf’s Volunteer of the Year nomination Melissa Clapham stage a Junior Golf Open Morning at their club.

Also playing a big part on the day was club professional Graham Drabble and his assistant Ben Davies.
Graham said: “The day turned out to be fantastic for everyone and for us as a club it was great to see so many potential junior golfers turn up to this event and show a keen interest in golf.
“Some juniors that turned up were already familiar with the club, but many were visiting Romiley GC for the first time.
“From the information given to me, 35 juniors turned up to the Open Day with an age range of around 5-13.
“There were a number of activities set up on the day for all the juniors (and parents) to try.
“In the clubhouse, we had three putting challenges, one of which was set up with cones which was made to look like our 14th hole.
“The other challenge was in the Golf Studio, where the youngsters were challenged to hit the longest drive.
“Cian Smith, aged eight, won this with a total distance of 53 yards -of course, I got the dads up against one another as well which the kids loved!
“They also had a quiz with anagrams of golfing words to do with their parents while they waited for the activities to start and anyone who attempted to answer the 10 questions received sweets!
“The next step for them is to become a junior member of RGC, some of which signed up on the day and many others took the forms home with them to complete and will hopefully send back to us soon.
“From there they will have access to regular group coaching on Saturdays from me and Sundays from Ben, as well as school holiday camps (Easter, half term and Summer holidays), competitions and social events.
“All comments received were positive, parents loved the fact that there were so many volunteers within the club willing to help promote junior golf.
“None of this would have been possible without the help of the club’s volunteers, they have all done such a fantastic job of getting this event together to help the club.
“A special thanks should also go out to the parents for making the effort to bring the kids along to the open day.”
