Cheshire Senior Ladies Win

Cheshire Senior Ladies began their defence of the Northern Counties Richardson Trophy, which they have held for a record nine years, against Cumbria at Hale Golf Club, the home club of new Lady Seniors Captain Tiff Fielden.

The Hale course was in great condition backed by superb clubhouse hospitality and support from members.

There were a couple of showers in the middle of the round but the dire weather forecast was ignored as the matches were completed in dry and windy conditions.

After nine holes there was little between the teams but then Cheshire upped their momentum to cruise to a comfortable 6-1 win to calm Tiff’s nerves.

Cheshire Senior Ladies Champion Sara Spencer (Heswall) led from the front in a close match finishing with a birdie on the 18th for a two-up win.Following her example were Cath Rawthore (Sale) 3/2, Caroline Berry (Bromborough) 5/4, Barbara Jamieson (Heswall) 4/3, Nat Cowley (Crewe) 8/6 and Ali Hicks (Bramhall) two up.
