Juniors raring to go

Cheshire junior boys had a great season in 2023 with their outstanding play being rewarded with the Northern Boys title in its inaugural season.
Several of the boys also played with the men’s team during the season with Bramhall star Dan Hayes winning the Player of the Year award and he went on to make his mark in the England squad.
The opening day of the season to give the age groups a chance to regroup was at Caldy Golf Club who made a great effort by letting play go ahead over 15 holes despite the recent heavy rain.
There were 45 players in action on the day, eight from the u18s, a little depleted as some of the top players were training with the men’s team.
There were 17 from the u16’s and 20 from the outstanding u14’s in action under the watchful eyes of coaches Matthew Turnock and Mark Johnson.
It was a close finish on 33 points going in favour of Alexander Freeman (Delamere Forest) from Joshua Hockenhull (Mottram Hall) two more than Luke Parkinson (Reddish Vale).
The teams in age groups playing to 90% handicap were led in by the u14’s 183 from u16’s 171 and u18’s 167.
The winning u14 team top scorers were Pierce Freeman 33, Joshua Hockenhull 33, Noah Alexander 31, Austin Eastwood 30, Harry Payne 28, James Clark 28.
CUGC team officer and winner of the recent England Golf Lifetime Achievement Award Graham McCormack was delighted the quality of golf etiquette and team effort on show which augers well for another fine season for Cheshire Junior Golf.
