Dan wins Carris Trophy

Dan Hayes’ tremendous progress produced a magnificent win today as he clinched the Carris Trophy at Ormskirk G.C. The Carris is the English Boys Under 18 Open Championship, and it once again attracted players from the UK and across Europe.

Dan, from Bramhall GC, set a course record 66 in round one, and followed it up with with 67 and 68. But this was not enough to separate him from the French player Arthur Carlier. The final round proved to be just as tight, but Dan secured victory with a brilliant 67 to win by two from Carlier. Dan finished on -16, brilliant golf over a testing Ormskirk course.

Other Cheshire players who made the cut were Spencer Davies (21st), Aaron Mohun (32nd) and Cole Self (54th) and an excellent 4th in the under-16s category.

The Carris Trophy dates back to 1935, and previous winners include Sandy Lyle, Justin Rose and Ken Brown. David Bathgate, in 1987, is the only previous winner from Cheshire.

Well done Dan!
