Disley Golf Club Captains Phil Clarke and Linda McCay combined forces to raise funds for the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team.
Linda said: “Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is the rescue team operating in the vicinity of Kinder Scout in the Peak District. The members of the team are all volunteers who give freely of their own time without remuneration, often putting themselves at risk during a call out.
“Phil as Captain and myself, as Lady Captain last year chose it as our joint Captains’ Charity because it is a charity that relies entirely on voluntary donations and does not receive Government support.
“This surprised me when I first became aware of it as the team, like other Mountain Rescue Teams around the country, does so much more than rescue people in difficulty on Kinder Scout.
“Whilst this is of course a very important and significant part of their role they also support the other emergency services, the police, fire service and ambulance crews.
“For example last year the team helped people affected by the floods in the Stockport area; they are called upon by the police to help search for missing and vulnerable people; they assist ambulance crews to locate and carry injured people from difficult terrain to give just a few examples.
”It is also a charity based locally to the golf club which was important to us. In fact from just about anywhere on the golf course you can get wonderful views of Kinder Scout!
“We raised a total of £5,601 for the charity. Some of the events we held to raise funds were a Race Night, a Captains’ Golf Day which included an auction and a raffle, a Clarins skincare and make up evening, and several raffles.
“I also designated two of the bunkers on the course as Lady Captain’s Charity bunkers and whenever a player hit their ball in the bunker they had to pay a donation to the charity. We also had a swear box!
“Phil and I presented the cheque to Kinder Mountain Rescue Team who were represented by their Chairperson Alison Wild and Assistant Leader Neil Woodhead.
“Phil and I have to give thanks to the club’s Events Committee who gave us so much support throughout the year organising the events. But most of all we have to thank the club’s members, families and friends without whose support and generosity we would not have been able to raise so much money.”
